When Ellen DeGeneres appeared on her sitcom and came out as a gay woman, the show pretty much imploded and she went through a really dark time in her life. While times are still tough for homosexuals all around the world, it seems like there is a lot more acceptance than there once was. People were terrified to be discovered to being gay, for fear that they would lose their livelihoods and disowned from their families.
